Luiz
Esteves is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, keyboard and guitar player.
He started his career in Patos
de Minas, Minas Gerais in Brazil. He wrote his first song with
Dalla,
another Brazilian musician from Patos de Minas.
In 1968,
he was awarded the best male performance by a singer at the Intermunicipal
Music Festival of Patos de Minas. He was then invited to join the band
"Os Asteróides".
Before
1970 he had been the lead singer for such local bands as "Trapps" and "Magos
do Sol".
By that
time, Luiz had written over one hundred songs. In 1980, while
living in Rio do Janeiro, he met Jorge Bomfim with whom he founded the
band "Erva-Doce". Together they
recorded only one single with the songs "Reino Encantado" and "Sonho Louco".
The single was released by Top Tape in 1981 but despite some local radio
airplay of the song "Reino Encantado", it was not a hit. Due to the
lack of success of the record, the band split and went their separate ways.
Luiz
went on writing songs and performing shows in Minas Gerais until he left
his professional musical career.
In 1988,
Luiz returned to music by participating in the album "En Cantos Gerais",
a compilation of music from musicians from Patos de Minas. He contributed
two songs, "Anjo Caído" and "Em Algum Lugar da América",
the latter of which was performed by Neusinha Morais.
In the
90's, Luiz once again returned to music with the release of three demo
tapes and one CD of "Electronic Experiments".
These demos and the CD were written, produced, and performed completely
by Luiz himself. In 1996, his friend Dalla's CD, "Viajar no Azul",
was released with Luiz's song "O Homem ou a Máquina" included
as a track.
In 2000,
"Virtual
Music" was released, which
is a collection of songs written using different sorts of electronic instruments,
samples, computer, guitars and voice.
In May
2001, Luiz and his son Gabriel Esteves recorded "Leyline
- Project one". The CD contains instrumental
music with lots of electric guitars and electronic experiments.
In May
2002, the second Leyline
CD
"what's
on the way"
is released with Luiz on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards
and programming and Gabriel Esteves on the lead electric guitar.
In September
2003, the third Leyline
CD "Just
For Fun" is
released with Luiz & Gabriel and João de Deus (Banda Makaloba),
Taquinho Noronha and Karl Mooney.
"Noise
From My Room" the 4th Leyline
CD was release on 26th January 2005.
